Introduction to Irish Bodhrán - Dain Forsythe, instructor.
Dain Forsythe is a rising performer among the ranks of bodhrán players
in North America. He placed first in Bodhrán at the 2006 Southeastern
Regional Irish Music Competition in Atlanta, Georgia, and later that
year at the Southeastern Pipers’ Club Tionól, Flute Instructor, John
Skelton (of The House Band) invited Dain to accompany him during his
evening performance - essentially matriculating Dain to the professional
level. He has taught bodhrán at the 2009 ZoukFest Irish Traditional
Music Weekend workshop, and currently teaches privately and performs
with Roger Landes, North America’s Bouzouki virtuoso, and aficionado.
1. Learn three rudimentary rhythms: the
March, Reel, and Jig.
2. Learn rudimentary “close” listening skills necessary to better
understand how to accompany Irish Traditional Melodies.
3. Learn about the historic tradition bearers of the Bodhrán in Irish
Traditional Music.
4. Acquire what is necessary to develop solid rudimentary session
technique.

Michael Hearne’s Big Barn Dance Music Festival 2009 – This event has
become a premier musical event of the Southwest. Michael hosts a three
day, Americana Music Extravaganza that you do not want to miss! Enjoy
the breath taking beauty of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains which provide
the backdrop for this outdoor festival in beautiful Taos, NM. The music

Sunita Stanislow Harp Workshops and Concert! – Sunita Stanislow, an
international performing artist who specializes in Celtic Music and
Jewish music, will present two workshops at Apple Mountain Music on
Sunday July 19, 2009. The cost for each workshop is $30 or $50 for
both.
Workshop one -The Art of the
Arpeggio – In this workshop, Sunita teaches fun and creative
ways to play arpeggios, breaking away from the standard patterns to
add variety and interest to your playing. This workshop is open to
all skill levels.

Workshop Two – Special Effects for
the Harp – In this workshop, Sunita will show you a variety of
special effects you can use to make your harp playing more fun and
help you to relax! This workshop is also open to all skill levels.

cost for a private lesson with Sunita $50 per hour. Please schedule
in advance.
2pm – 5pm
Concert – Please join us for
this very special evening concert featuring Sunita Stanislow. Based
in Israel, Sunita is a frequent performer at festivals and concerts.
Sunita has performed at numerous foreign embassies, the Israeli
President's residence, and at many private events. She is at the
forefront of Israel’s performing arts entertainment community and
tours the USA and Europe several times a year. Sunita's harp music
crosses the genres of Jewish music, Celtic music, New Age Music and
World Music and she has carved out a unique place in the world of
the Celtic harp and Irish harp.
Doors open at 5:30 and the concert
begins at 6pm. Admission: $15 at the door.
Introduction to Harmonica – Bruce Irwin, Instructor.
Everything you need and need to know to get started playing the
harmonica. In this workshop you will learn how to hold your harmonica,
how to blow, how to draw and most importantly, how to play! An
instruction book, CD and harmonica are included!

Introductory Irish language
Bettina Kimpton,
instructor. This class will offer an introduction to grammar and
conversation in the beautiful Irish language. We will also learn a few
Irish songs. Bettina holds a PhD in Celtic Studies from Harvard, where
she studied both Old and Modern Irish, and also studied the modern
language in Donegal. She has taught at Harvard and at UNM.
Fridays 2-3:30, starting June 5.

Summer Harp Classes at Apple Mountain

Come and be recharged in the peaceful environment of harp class. You can
continue to learn how to play the harp in a relaxing and fun environment
with other adults. It is a weekly retreat from the pressures of life.
Harp Class for Absolute Beginners
This class is intended for those with no background in playing harp.
We will use a step-by-step guided approach that allows you to learn the
fundamentals of music at the harp. We will also do some gentle
relaxation exercises as warm-ups along with some free and imaginative
improvisations.

music and playing their harp and who would like to brush up on
technique, sharpen rhythmic skills in a group setting, and learn some
beautiful new tunes.

also welcome. Participating drop-ins pay the $15 fee per class they
attend. You are also welcome to observe without charge.

who do not own a harp yet, harps will be available for use from our
showroom.
